Namiki Emperor Goldfish
The Namiki Emperor Goldfish is a symbol of good luck and infinite prosperity in the Far East. Many daily items are made using the motif of Goldfish as it brings forth good omen to the user.
The large size Namiki Emperor Goldfish is made using taka maki-e, kiri kane (cut gold technique) used along the ripples of water while the rocks are presented in shishiai taka maki-e and togidashi maki-e technique. The graceful slender of the tail fins illustrates the highly skilled craftsmanship of Namiki urushi artist, Seki Chida 正樹 earmarked as one of the rising star artist within Kokokai.
There are no other modern design Namiki Emperor Goldfish made so far except for two pieces that were ever made for a nearby head of state. The Gold Fish motif has been used by Namiki and Pilot Japan as a demonstration of Kokokai’s process of lacquer application through all its public relation media.
