The Namiki Rabbit In Moonlight Emperor fountain pen uses rankaku quail egg shells on the rabbit on the pen barrel. It is a beautiful way of showing the passage of time as one collects this pen.
The egg shells turns a bit greyish over time (calcium) capturing the beauty of time as we observe it over time. Even the clip is made of maki-e as compared to most pens showing that it is a high quality pen. Jim maki-e is evident on the background.
Togidashi taka maki-e techniques were applied on the knotted grass and background. The emperor size pen is made by Yasunori Sakamoto 康则 and it is fitted with a precision made Jumbo 50 18kt solid gold to provide the best writing experience.
